Reunion Musings

Hi, Everyone,

I have been hearing from several of my Carpenter cousins about the Reunion. It sounds as though you enjoyed the 2006 Carpenter-Zimmerman Reunion as much as I did. Even the weather cooperated just as it did in 2001.

I have talked with Chris Floyd, the nice photographer from Centre College in Danville. Remember Chris, the man on the roof of Ft. Harrod shelter. He says the photographs have turned out very well and are about ready to be mailed. If you know anyone who was not at the Reunion who would like to order a photograph or if anyone would like to have an extra one, just let me know. A photograph of all your Carpenter cousins for someone who was not able to attend will make a very nice Christmas gift, don't you think? They will be $20. each including the mailing if they are ordered immediately. If Chris has to make additional prints and extra trips to the post office, the photographs will be a little more expensive..

I have talked with Allan Leach, the historian who led those great tours. He was very pleased with the enthusiasm of our group.

What was your favorite experience at the Reunion? Your favorite meal? Your favorite site on the Tour?

Any interest in having another reunion? Any ideas about another Reunion in a year or so? Any volunteers to be on a Reunion committee?

I still cannot believe how welcoming the Hustonville School and Hustonville Christian Church were to "The Carpenters". Neither Joe nor I made those bulletin boards or signs at either place; our Hustonville friends did all of that.

I cannot give you an exact number of participants at the Reunion. Several people did not sign up in my "Master Planner" at the Cafeteria and several others did not register at all. I do not have addresses or genealogical lines for these people and will not be able to get photographs to them. If any of you know any of these cousins, please let them know how to contact me.

I have started a Carpenter Station Cemetery topic on the Forum. I think it is important to proceed with the recommendations made by Allan Leach at the Reunion. We have also been in contact with Mary McCormick whose mother was one of a very few who made the initial plea for funds to care for the cemetery stones, erect the fence and memorial that we all saw last week. Mary also conducted a more recent fund raiser in order to have the funds to continute to maintain the cemetery. I believe that Mary's recommendations should be given considerable weight because of her past involvement and experience.

Currently, there is not enough income from the designated CDs to continue maintenance on the Carpenter Station cemetery in 2006. That means that it will not be mowed until after the first of the year. We need quite a bit more money and on-site management in order to take proper care of this cemetery. What do you think?
